Are Romeo and Juliet compelled by love or lust?
GOAL: Is it the greatest love story ever told, or something else? . . . Possibly something else?
You will get to be the judge of how Romeo and Juliet's choices push the plot in the play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. We will dramatically read the play in class. It is encouraged for students to review at night the section we read in class. Shakespeare can be difficult, but once you get it, you have it. It is only a matter of putting in time to get used to the language and format.
There are 5 Acts in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. We will read them (and view parts) in order. Given this, if you are absent you should read the next section of the play as a way to insure that you are keeping up, or email me for the specific lesson of a day. As a strong high school student, you want to stay on top of your learning. You can have your own copy of the play in a variety of formats . . .

There are a number of productions, and adaptations of this play. For example, here is the balcony scene in four different versions: Zeffirelli, Gnomeo and Juliet, and Warm Bodies. Here is an adaptation by Luhrmann that uses modern staging but Shakespeare's original words. In addition, Romeo and Juliet are referenced often in general media; a reference you might come across is in the television show, Brooklyn 99.
