Goal: Produce a multi-stage narrative with setting, characters, and plot.
Students are working on a story. It can be any genre, any characters, any setting, and anything can happen. The writing of this story will demonstrate the student's ability to write events in a logical order, and develop character and setting. We are currently writing all 5 stages of a story--Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution. We have written a little bit in each stage. We will work to blend the stages in second semester. We will also polish the style in second semester. However, for now, first semester, the goal is for students to have writing in all 5 stages. The story can be as few as 2 pages to as many as 107 pages. The shorter the story, the harder it is to develop setting and character and get the plot in there. However, it can be done. Thank You, Ma'm is a story we read where this was marvelously achieved. Of Mice and Men is an example of 107 pages of greatness.
